Job Description

Job Summary
Supports geologic operations activities and database management of the Geoscience Department. Works in a multidisciplinary team to progress company projects and objectives.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Generate completion logs and other deliverables for regulatory, drilling, and completion groups to support general operations
  • Maintain a database of all geologic data
  • Demonstrates proficiency (or rapidly becomes proficient) in the use of PETRA, Global Mapper or ArcGIS, and Powerlog software platforms
  • Wellsite supervision of wireline logging and other specialized geoscience operations
  • Conditions logs via Powerlog and generate final completion logs
  • With supervision, provide data and appropriate deliverables to the geoscience department to evaluate new projects, acquisitions, and divestitures.
  • Supervised interpretation of well logs, scout tickets, and other geologic data
  • constructing structure, isopach, and other geologic maps and cross sections as needed.
  • Searches for and retrieves all data (maps, well, regulatory, production, scout information, published articles, etc.) relevant to a well, prospect, or project from all available data repositories such as libraries, internet sites, and governmental agencies.
  • Perform some level of QA/QC on their work
Other Duties and Responsibilities
  • Expected to possess an understanding of the geologic setting and ages of the producing reservoir at the stage name level
  • Required to work as a team member with other team members and disciplines within the Corporation including geophysicists, reservoir engineers, production engineers, landmen, and administrative, regulatory, and field personnel.
  • Develop an annual work plan in conjunction with, and to be approved by, the
    Geoscience Manager. This work plan will define the area of responsibility and identify
    specific projects within that area of responsibility. These goals and objectives within the work plan are required to be measurable. This work plan can and will change as the company's assets or priorities change.
  • Required to maintain and develop an accurate and current geological database
    utilizing the companys main computer server(s) to store and manipulate well logs, well and scout data, competitor activity information, etc. for their area of responsibility.
  • Responsible for maintaining a high degree of technical excellence as to the required skills as defined herein. From time to time, the corporation may provide opportunities for schools, short courses, and seminars to upgrade or keep employees abreast of technical advancements. However, it is the individual's primary responsibility to ensure that their skills are kept current and that they employ the best possible technical ideas and methods in executing their work.
Qualifications
Education
Requires a bachelors degree in Geology, geophysics, geography, or related field. Experience credit will be given for a masters degree.
Specialized knowledge
  • Well-site work, including familiarity with mud logging methods, gas chromatography, the mechanics and quality control of wireline logging and well-testing tools, the data interpretation necessary for determining core and casing points, and the ability to describe core and sample cuttings.
  • Knowledge of the response of borehole logging equipment to rocks and fluids found below the surface of the earth and the ability to interpret the data generated using these instruments. This includes electrical, mechanical, radioactive, and porosity measurements used in logging well bores in the oil and gas industry.
Skills & Abilities
  • Understanding of geodetics and ability to translate data from different projections systems and data using standard software
Working Conditions
  • Office environment during daytime business hours.
  • Onsite supervision of well logging and other geologic activities several times a year; often requires overnight stay on location and long hours
